Back in The Saddle Again (for now)
May. 8th, 2012 11:49 amI'm not sure how best to describe my station. Chihuahua? Very loud but little ears. Or maybe politician. Other people hear me just fine but I don't seem to hear them much. A parrot? No ears, talks a lot. :-)
I managed to get my computer limping back yesterday by booting from a USB key with Linux installed and installed the digital mode software. It's not a long-term solution, but it might work until Thursday when the new hard drive gets here. I even made contacts into Alaska and Hawaii, but I spent inordinate amounts of time between contacts calling CQ. I know my signal was getting out because I saw the signal reports on the reverse beacon page I posted about the other day, but either I couldn't hear anyone or there just weren't a lot of people who wanted to play radio at the time. Getting the antenna up in the air will probably help, but I can only work stations if they're actually there and if I can hear them.
